One day it dawned on me that I had probably traveled more internationally than in my own country. It's always been a goal of mine to see all the 50 United States so I just decided it was time to be intentional about doing just that! After starting to the 50 state expedition, it turns out this is a goal of many Americans and that my travels are inspiring many to go on their own state to state journey! This is amazing and my heart sings hearing that! Now let's talk logistics...sorry to tell you this BUT I don't have a well thought out blueprint or strategy on how to navigate through the USA. I literally just pick a place randomly, go and then repeat, again and again. I keep it simple and I'm having the time of my life seeing all the culture and beauty the USA has to offer! I do have one rule though and that is... just driving through a state and layovers in airports don't count! You have to stay in the state for at least a couple days to really soak up the culture for it to count! Also, I'm not really into going to capitals and the mainstream places everyone knows about. There are definitely some big name places every wanderer should see but I love finding those hidden gem towns and places to stay in a state that no one knows about! However you decide to tackle your expedition though, I will be elated that you are working towards the 50 state goal! Lastly, you'll want to grab a great tracker like this scratch off map from Waypoint Wanders. I love mine and every time I scratch off a new state I feel so accomplished to be one step closer to the goal! Their travel journals are great too so you can jot down your thoughts and any revelations that come to you while in a particular place.
