Famous potato country or the most epic heavenly falls in the USA? I‘m going with the latter! I haven’t even began to scratch the surface of this gorgeous state and I’ll definitely be updating this post as I explore some other areas of Idaho like Boise in the future but I wasn’t going to pass up the opportunity to cross off another state so I took the hour and 45 min drive from Jackson Hole, WY to spend 24 hours in Idaho Falls. First off, the drive was absolutely beautiful, breathtaking, scary and adventurous! You have to go all up in the mountains and drive high peaks on thin roads to cross the state line. That was definitely an adventure I’ll never forget! Between the pines, you’ll find some of the most unique spots. One that we stumbled upon was Fall Creek Falls in Idaho. Honestly, I remember thinking when approaching the falls that the scenic view I was taking in was what heaven will look like. It was such a majestic spot it didn’t even seem real! Highly recommend stopping here on your way from Idaho to Jackson Hole or vice versa.
Where to Stay
Located in the heart of downtown Idaho Falls is Destinations Inn, an around the world themed hotel. Each room is designed as a different place in the world! You can travel the whole world without ever leaving the state of Idaho! This hotel was so cool! One of my pet peeves is when a theme is skimped but they put so much effort into every room to make you feel like you were truly in that country. Each room comes with a luxurious jetted soaking tub, the most heaviest, regal premium linens that were actually hand stitched by the owner and the ambiance of whatever country room you’re staying in for the evening. The Alaska room was our destination for the night and I truly felt like I was transported to Alaska. One of the awesome attention to detail extras that the hotel does is when you enter the room, on a big screen, there is music and scenery scrolling from that country so it puts you immediately on location! A fun thing I recommend doing is watching a movie that was filmed in the location of your room. We watched The Proposal, with Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds which was filmed in Sitka, Alaska and it just added to the whole experience. my favorite part of the Alaska room was the shower! If you‘ve followed my blog for a minute you already know I’m obsessed with showering so when I saw the rock shower completely open in the middle of the room I was so excited! A hearty plated breakfast is also included in your stay. You get to pick from a variety of choices when checking in. We elected for the in house freshly made mega cinnamon rolls accompanied with fruit and yogurt parfaits. Both were absolutely delicious! Who knew you could go to London, Congo, Paris, Greece, New York, Alaska, Morocco, Rome and more without ever leaving the state of Idaho?! This hotel is such a gem and the best lodging option in Idaho Falls!
What To Do
The city’s name doesn’t have “falls” in it for nothing. It really is home to some gorgeous waterfalls in the heart of the city. On the same street as Destinations Inn, is Dave’s Bike Shop. We rented bikes from Dave ( the nicest guy!) and road around the city trails and took in some of the falls. This was a great summer sunset evening activity. It was neat being in a city but also having the nature waterfalls in the middle of the city to enjoy. There are walking trails and biking trails throughout the falls as well as restaurants and little shops.
